‘Chambre separee’ Roshani on the third floor offers a space for Private Dining and to experience the Emerson Zanzibar Tea Ceremony.
Roshani is the name of one of the architectural styles of the mansion houses of cosmopolitan Zanzibar in the 19th Century. It is a private area, where guests would be treated to ‘high tea’ and entertained with music, poetry, and the sheer pleasure of beautiful conversation.
‘Chambre separee’ Roshani offers private dining in Emerson on Hurumzi for up to 15 guests. Guests are welcome for the full evening dining experience in Roshani, which includes a set 3 course menu at $40 per person excl. drinks. Seating in Roshani is on cushions, by low tables.
The musicians of the Dhow Countries Music Academy also come over during the evening to Roshani to play several traditional Taarab songs.
Zanzibar Tea Ceremony
The Emerson Zanzibar Tea Ceremony briefly introduces guests to the Zanzibar food culture as well as Stone Town, as melting pot of cultures and religions living harmoniously in this World Heritage site. The Tea Ceremony is held in Roshani at Emerson on Hurumzi where seating is on low chairs and on “Swahili style” cushions. The guests are shown the tea spices, how to mix them and also learn about the traditional tea and coffee drinking culture of Zanzibar, while enjoying them with traditional appetizers and sweets. This whole experience helps you to step into the soul of Zanzibar.
The Zanzibar Tea Ceremony is 15 USD per person, which includes tasting of three types of tea, accompanied by a variety of savoury appetizers and Zanzibari sweets.
Roshani can accommodate up to 15 guests. The Tea Ceremony takes approximately 2 hours and can be started any time between 11h00 up to 16h00.
Our restaurant spaces are located right in the heart of the city of Stone Town.
