Dinner in the Tea House Restaurant

The rooftop Tea House Restaurant Dinner Experience offers cocktails at the sunset hour, dinner celebrating the pleasure of Zanzibar cuisine fused with oriental Persian and Omani influences, as well as traditional Taarab performances by accomplished musicians from the Dhow Countries Music Academy.

The full evening dining experience includes a set 3 course menu at $40 per person excluding drinks. Our cuisine is designed to marry the culture and style of the building with the distinct culinary heritage of the era.

There is one exclusive sitting for dinner only, and service begins promptly at 19h00, but we welcome dinner guests from 18h00 to enjoy the spectacular views of sea and city.

Dinner in the Tea House Restaurant at Emerson on Hurumzi is by reservation only and, as there is only limited seating, a deposit is required for the booking’s confirmation.

Emerson Zanzibar

Why not try our Zanzibar Tea Ceremony

The Emerson Zanzibar Tea Ceremony briefly introduces guests to the Zanzibar food culture as well as Stone Town, as melting pot of cultures and religions living harmoniously in this World Heritage site. The Tea Ceremony is held in Roshani at Emerson on Hurumzi where seating is on low chairs and on “Swahili style” cushions. The guests are shown the tea spices, how to mix them and also learn about the traditional tea and coffee drinking culture of Zanzibar, while enjoying them with traditional appetizers and sweets.  This whole experience helps you to step into the soul of Zanzibar.

The Zanzibar Tea Ceremony is 15 USD per person, which includes tasting of three types of tea, accompanied by a variety of savoury appetizers and Zanzibari sweets.

Roshani can accommodate up to 15 guests. The Tea Ceremony takes approximately 2 hours and can be started any time between 11h00 up to 16h00.

I would highly recommend Tea Ceremony
We have had a very unique experience like never before. We have been served 4 different types of tea with no rush, one by one. Our dedicated waiter explained each and every single tea we were served with complimentary sweet and savory traditional sides. The set-up/decor was so beautiful, it’s just unimaginable. I would highly recommend Tea Ceremony to anyone and everyone. I will definitely visit the Tea House again this place is part of Emerson Hotel.

The best rooftop restaurant in Stone Town
The best rooftop restaurant in Stone Town. It just is. The best restaurant in Stone Town. Amazing rooftop view of the city at sundown, good cocktails, friendly staff and some of the best food in town. We suggest you book a table instead of sitting on cushions, it’s more comfortable when eating. And try to go there when then have musicians playing, it adds a whole other dimension to the experience. If you don’t try it when in Stone Town you will regret it!

The Best Hotels In Zanzibar Ranked & Reviewed (2020)
Dinner on the Rooftop Tea House was our most memorable in Zanzibar and should be experienced by all who visit Stone Town. Diners sit atop cushions and large Persian rugs on the hotel’s roof while a velvet roof dances in the wind. Evening cocktails begin at 18:00 and dinner is served at 19:00, make sure to book a spot in advance as the demand is high.
One of the best and most beautiful hotels in Stone Town
Delicious food in the restaurant. This is a great way to experience Stone Town. The view from their rooftop is second to none and the sunset is stunning. The Sunset Dinner is highly recommended. One of the best and most beautiful hotels in Stone Town. A taste of Zanzibar. The perfect way to experience the sights and sounds of magical Spice Island.

Dining on the rooftop is like being in a movie
My friend told me that dining on the rooftop is like being in a movie. So I did. And it is! Reserve in advance – the rooftop is not big. The food is excellent once you climb the steep 99 steps. Feel free to get distracted by the beautiful interior. The live entertainment completes the motion picture experience. I didn’t stay in the hotel but I am sure I would feel like a movie star if I did.

This hotel totally captures the spirit of Stone Town
Quirkily charming this former palace has retained it’s character. This hotel totally captures the spirit of Stone Town–it’s history and its culture. Our room at the top (North) had great view of the rooftops, an outdoor (but private!) shower, and most amazing of all–and air-conditioned (as well as mosquito-netted) bed!
